Zorbs On A Racetrack

Need to know…

What you need to Know about Zorbing Hire UK

Zorbing, in case you didn’t know, is defined in the dictionary as ‘the activity of travelling downhill inside a large air-cushioned hollow ball’. Yes, that’s right! It’s officially a word in the dictionary.

It’s sometimes referred to as sphering or orbing, but they’re essentially the same thing – the participant is secured inside the inner capsule of a large plastic (air cushioned) transparent ball. Sound a bit like a hamster ball? Well, yes, a little, but it can be so much more than strapping yourself into a ball and rolling down a hill!

Experiences to Remember

We cater for a range of activities including Bubble Football, Zorb Racing and the UK’s only mobile army assault course. We can also manage anything from children’s birthday parties to large corporate events, anywhere in the UK.

People Playing Bubble Football

What is bubble football

What Is Bubble Football?

The summer holidays are coming up, and perhaps you’re looking for ways to get the kids out of the house and away from the TV. It’s obviously good for them to enjoy some physical activity, but you also want them to be safe while doing so. Have you thought of trying out bubble football? It’s excellent exercise, extremely safe and most importantly, it’s lots of fun!

How do you play?

The game is played very much like a traditional game of five a side football, apart from the fact that every player is encased in a giant bubble, with only their legs free so that they can run about the pitch.

Players run around the pitch, trying to get their ball into their goal. Tackling another player usually means just knocking into them; meaning one or both of you will bounce away and possibly bounce of the floor. As you can imagine, it’s very silly and kids love it.

What equipment does it use?

Aside from the normal football equipment of goals and a ball, each player uses a tough, see through Zorb ball. They’re made of robust materials that will keep all players safe, allowing them to run around the pitch without fear of injury. If you’ve seen the Zorb balls that are used to travel across water, these are very similar.

Where can you play?

All over the country! Bubble football is played on football pitches nationwide, so a quick search is bound to show up some matches near you. You won’t have to travel far in order to get your fix of crazy inflatable football.

How safe is it?

Very. Watching bubble football games, it may seem like players are constantly falling over and so are in danger, but they’re not. Tackling is made much safer than in traditional football, thanks to the fact that the inflatable ball bounces you away from the other players, long before your legs can make contact with anyone else.

In addition to this, there is always trained staff on hand who can offer first aid in the unlikely event that a player gets hurt. You know you’re in safe hands while you’re having fun.

Want to book a game yourself? Try out Zorbing Hire UK, the UK’s best zorbing company. We have highly trained staff that can ensure your bubble football experience is the safest and most fun experience you will have in a Zorb! As well as football, we offer children’s zorb parties, assault courses, crazy sand activities, and much more.

Bubble Football Team

Forget the European Cup

Real Football is Zorbs.  This is what it is all about.  Zorbing Football.

Ever heard of zorbing football or bubble football? No? Well after watching the video, if you aren’t twitching to get out there and join in the sport that’s sweeping across the country, what’s wrong with you? This if fun with a capital F and it’s not difficult to see why.

Zorbing football in London takes place all over the capital every weekend, and has become a huge hit for stag parties. What better fun could you have with a bunch of your pals as you create a weekend to remember for the condemned man? And as for footballing skills – well we’re not totally convinced you need any as simply trying to stay on your feet without getting flattened, frequently, is actually the most important skill for this game.

Need a stressbuster? Zorbing football, or bubble ball is possibly one of the best stress busters around. To be able to run at will at one of your opponents, completely flatten them, and know you won’t have caused them any physical harm is an indescribably enjoyable experience. And as for being the referee, well that’s a tricky one, as there aren’t really any rules to bubble football where physical contact is concerned – anything goes, though trying to explain the offside rule to someone in a bubble football is also pretty pointless.

One of the things we know from experience is that when bubble football has been organised as a surprise event for a group for friends, the reaction has always been amazing. Most of those who take part for the very first time have never even heard of bubble football, but once played, you can rest assured the occasion will never be forgotten, which is why the game is catching on so quickly.

Of course there are plenty of other occasions where you can either opt for the more traditional zorb rather than bubble football, but we can’t recommend bubble football enough. Believe it or not, it has also been a great hit at corporate events as well as at village fairs, graduation parties and just for the sheer hell of it.

Here at Zorbing Hire UK we can supply all you need for bubble football, no matter where you live in the UK, and we also provide two supervisory staff. Our Elite Package provides you with an inflatable pitch surround or Gazebo as we call it, flooring, 10 ‘balls’, a generator for the surround, and also something quite useful, a football. We also come fully insured, so you have no need to worry on that side either.

To find out more, just give us a call here at Zorbing Hire UK and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have before setting you up for a day of brilliant fun.

Animation Of A Person In A Hamster Wheel

Your new life as a hamster

Zorbing Hire UK.  It wasn’t until nine years after its first commercial appearance that the word ‘zorb’ formally entered the Oxford English Dictionary (in 2001), being defined as “a sport in which a participant is secured inside an inner capsule in a large, transparent ball which is then rolled along the ground or down hills”.

The idea itself was not novel, as hamster balls, as they were referred to, had been in existence since the 1970s and there had been one or two ‘dummy runs’ (excuse the pun) using a large sphere with a human inside. Even in the 1990s in what is now a cringe worthy show, Gladiators, they had their Atlaspheres, which were solid metal balls, but a minor step forward in the evolution of what today we call a zorb.

From the very first hamster balls to the ‘Atlasphere’, there were two principal problems, which basically held back the logical evolution of the zorb; these were the rigidity of the outer sphere which allowed for no impact absorption, and it was difficult to protect the occupant from injury. Though there is no note of it anywhere, we suspect that the word ‘zorb’ may have morphed from the word ‘absorption’ as it was this design advancement that achieved the much-needed breakthrough.

In 1994 two New Zealanders, Dwane van der Sluis and Andrew Akers produced the first zorb and, as they say the rest is history. Establishing that a non-rigid sphere could still be successfully rolled was part of the breakthrough, the second was the creation of a second ball within a ball, thus creating the much-needed impact absorber. From then on, the only thing that seemed to be holding back the development and use for the zorb was imagination, as the zorb began to appear across the globe (is that another pun?).

From rolling down gentle slopes to crossing the English Channel in a zorb, nothing seemed off limits, and while there is a limit to what man can endure physically, it seems that the brain doesn’t always engage accordingly. In October 2014 Reza Baluchi attempted to zorb between Florida and Bermuda.

He managed an impressive 70 nautical miles before having to be rescued by the coastguard, but the enormity of his folly only comes to light when you realise that the distance he needed to cover was 850 nautical miles. Not only did he run out of energy, but he could never have had sufficient supplies of water and protein bars to get him that far.

We will cover a selection of daring and bizarre zorbing events in a later article, but for now, here at Zorbing Hire UK we are more than happy to hire out zorbing balls for less crazy events, but ones which are still great fun and hugely exhilarating, like bubble football or zorbing football, London being one of the most popular locations for this emerging sport.

To find out more about what you can and can’t do with a body zorb, just give us a call here at Zorbing Hire UK, wherever you live, and we’ll be happy to advise.
